WHAT TO EXPECT

Your Initial Asessment

The focus of your initial assessment will be on understanding you and your health needs and the primary concern(s) that you would like to address. Much of the first appointment will be based on questions around your health and symptoms. I will ask to feel your pulse and look at your tongue. I will usually also ask to undertake further physical examination which may include assessment of the abdomen, back, joints, muscles, skin and acupuncture channels. This gives me feedback from your body and important cues which help me to formulate the best treatment for you.

There will usually also be time for a shorter introductory treatment at this session.

Please wear loose clothing and bring a list of any medication you are taking.

Allow up to one hour for the initial assessment.

Subsequent Treatments

Subsequent treatments are tailored to you.

We will usually begin with a shorter 'check in and catch up' to see how you are, how you have been since your last session and to address any questions you may have.

Very fine needles are used to stimulate acupuncture points which are chosen based on your acupuncture diagnosis. Acupuncture points used may be on the limbs, trunk or head. I may keep returning to taking your pulse and looking for other bodily responses to inform me of your response to the treatment as we go along.

Treatment varies depending on your needs. A typical treatment will often involve treating points on your front, followed by on your back. Where appropriate I can also use joint and soft tissue manipulation and mobilisation techniques. I may also teach some self help techniques (eg. self acupressure, breathing and relaxation techniques, stretching and/or strengthening exercises) and discuss the effects of diet with regards to your health condition.

Please allow up to 45mins for a treatment session.
